Historia: History: |
Korkeusmallia on käytetty rinnekaltevuuden laskentaan.
Lentomittausaineistosta tehtyjä paksuustulkintoja voidaan tarkentaa maastossa tehtävillä johtavuusluotauksilla, joiden avulla saadaan tarkempi kuva tutkittavan alueen ominaisuuksista, kuten ominaisvastuksesta.
Tutkimusalueella voidaan tehdä maastotarkasteluja, joiden tarkoituksena on tarkentaa olemassa olevaa maaperäkarttaa. Maastotarkastelun aikana kiinnitetään huomiota hienosedimenttien ja moreenien koostumukseen, alueelliseen morfologiaan, pohjavesiolosuhteisiin ja pintakivisyyteen ja -lohkareisuuteen.
Alueen erityispiirteet voidaan huomioida rakennettavuuskartassa esimerkiksi tarkentamalla maalajikuvioiden rajoja tai muuttamalla laskennallista rakennettavuusominaisuuksiin perustuvaa luokitusta vastaamaan paremmin paikallisia olosuhteita. Usein rakennettavuuteen liittyvät erityispiirteet on kuitenkin esitetty rakennettavuuskartan sijaan erillisessä tutkimusselostuksessa.

The datasets used in the processing vary by quality and accuracy depending on the time when construction condition characteristics have been calculated for a specific area.
GTK’s Superficial deposits 1:20 000/1:50 000 and/or Superficial deposits of Finland 1:200 000 (sediment polygons) dataset were used as the baseline data, as well as National Land Survey of Finland’s laser scanning dataset, digital elevation model 25m x 25m or the elevation model calculated from the contours of the Topographic database, which has possibly been further elaborated using the point elevation data provided by the municipalities or cities. The elevation model has been the basis in calculating the slope steepness. In the interpretation of the thicknesses of fine-grained sediment areas (clay, silt, finer fine sand), information was provided by airborne geophysical dataset, gravity measurements, ground penetrating radar soundings, and drilling data. In some cases, the interpretation of the thickness of fine-grained sediments has been neglected due to the extensive area of investigation. The estimation of the thickness of fine-grained sediments would be too uncertain without drilling data or sufficient information on electrical conductivity of different type of fine-grained sediment areas. Such information is not always available from the extensive areas of investigation.
Radiometric and electromagnetic measurements are suitable to study the properties of overburden. Radiometric measurements reflect the characteristics of often less than a metre thick, dry surface of superficial deposits and bedrock. Electromagnetic aerial measurements provide information about the electrical conductivity of the overburden and bedrock to a depth of several tens of metres. Thickness interpretations based on airborne geophysical data can be further specified in the field using electrical soundings. Using these, a more accurate picture of the characteristics of the area in question can be obtained, such as electrical resistivity of the overburden. Electrical conductivity varies by sediment type, but there can also be differences between different areas with the same sediment types.
The use of electromagnetic airborne survey datasets for estimating the thicknesses of fine-grained sediment areas is based on their high electrical conductivity compare to the surroundings. The electrical conductivity of clay deposits varies from approximately 500 mS/m for marine clays on Finland’s coastline to approximately 10 mS/m for inland clay deposits origin from the Baltic Sea lake stages. The electrical conductivity of coarse-grained sediments is typically between 1-10 mS/m and the electrical conductivity of bedrock is often even less. In addition to flight altitude, one of the prerequisites for the interpretation of the airborne geophysical surveys is that the electrical conductivity of the sediment type is known. In the absence of more precise field measurements, it is necessary to use estimates in order to gain a general picture of the variation in the thicknesses of fine-grained sediments. The electrical conductivity of the fine-grained sediments is not only affected by the origin of the sediments, but also their water content. The electrical conductivity of dry overburden is less than in sediments below the groundwater table. Electromagnetic measurement results also include disturbances caused by a variety of metal structures, such as power lines, railways and large industrial buildings. These also cause local errors in the interpretation.
Field inspections can be conducted in the survey area, the intention of which is to elaborate on the existing map of superficial deposits. During the course of the field inspection, attention is paid to the composition of fine-grained sediments and till, regional morphology, groundwater conditions, surface rockiness and surface boulder content.
The special characteristics of the area can be highlighted in the construction condition map by, for example further specifying the boundaries of sediment type patterns or by changing the calculated construction condition classification to better correspond to local conditions. However, special characteristics related to construction conditions are often shown in separate survey reports instead of being shown on a construction condition map.
With due consideration, sites with significant natural or cultural values that have no primary intention for construction can be added to the report. Furthermore, the report can incorporate geochemical information and a more detailed statement of the area's geotechnical and geochemical characteristics. Areas identified as being prone to flooding can also be delineated on the map. |

Rakennettavuusaineiston luokituksen pohjana on käytetty Kunnallistekniikan pohjatutkimusohjeita (KUPO-92). Alueen maaperä on jaettu kuuteen rakennettavuusluokkaan. Lisäksi kallioalueet, täytemaa-alueet ja kartoittamattomat, rakennetut alueet on esitetty omina luokkinaan ilman, että näiden alueiden rakennettavuusominaisuuksiin on otettu kantaa.
Maaperätieto pohjautuu GTK:n ”Maaperä 1:20 000 / 1: 50 000” -aineistoon, jota on tarkennettu maastotutkimuksilla. Maastossa tehtyjen tarkennusten perusteella osalle alueista laadittiin päivitetty maaperäkartta mittakaavassa 1:5 000.
Pehmeikköjen paksuustulkinta perustuu GTK:n lentogeofysiikan mittausaineistoon. Tulkinnan tueksi alueilla on myös tehty tarkentavia pistemäisiä sähkönjohtavuusmittauksia ja tulkintoja on lisäksi verrattu alueelta saatavilla olleisiin maaperäkairauksiin. Klaukkalan tutkimusalueella tehtiin lisäksi porakonekairauksia maapeitteiden paksuuden ja kalliopinnan tason varmistamiseksi.
Rinnekaltevuudet perustuvat kuntien tuottamiin korkeuskäyriin ja -pisteisiin. Tarvittaessa korkeusaineistoa on täydennetty MML:n maastotietokannan korkeuskäyrillä.
Rakennettavuusaineiston ruutukoko on 5 metriä.

The interpretation of construction condition characteristics is formed using superficial deposit data, estimated thicknesses of fine-grained sediment areas and slope steepness calculated from the elevation model. In some cases, the thickness interpretation has been neglected due to extensive area of investigation if drilling data or sufficient information on electrical conductivity of different type of fine-grained sediment areas have not been available. Classification and datasets of construction condition maps vary according to the time when the construction condition characteristics were calculated for the area in question. The grid size for the construction condition dataset varies between 2 metres to 50 metres. The construction condition maps produced by GTK are based on the classifications specified by VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) published in the Civil Engineering Ground Survey Guidelines (KUPO-92).
Construction conditions of superficial deposits for the detailed areas of Hyvinkää, Järvenpää, Klaukkala, Sipoo and Tuusula (2006):
The Civil Engineering Ground Survey Guidelines (KUPO-92) have been used as the basis for the classification of the construction condition dataset. The area has been divided into six construction condition categories. In addition, bedrock areas, man-made ground areas, and unmapped, built-up areas are shown in their own category without any estimation on their construction condition characteristics.
Information about overburden is based on GTK’s “Superficial deposits 1:20 000 / 1:50 000” dataset that has been further elaborated using field surveys. On the basis of further specifications conducted in the field, an updated map of superficial deposits was made for some of the areas at a scale of 1:5 000.
The estimation of the thicknesses of fine-grained sediments is based on GTK's airborne geophysical survey data. In order to provide assistance with interpretation, further elaborations of pointwise electrical conductivity measurements have been made and the interpretations have also been compared to available geological drilling data from the area. In addition, machine drilling was conducted in the Klaukkala survey area with the intention of verifying the thickness of overburden and the bedrock level.
Slope steepness is based on the contour lines and point elevations produced by the municipalities. Wherever necessary, the elevation data has been supplemented with the elevation contour lines from the Topographic database produced by the National Land Survey of Finland (NLS).
The grid size for the construction condition dataset is five (5) metres.
Classification
• Very good: topographically plain areas where the material is coarse sand, gravel or gravel till (moraine)
• Good: topographically plain or gently sloping areas where the material is sandy till (moraine) or fine sand, and fine-grained sediment areas with a thickness less than 2.5 metres
• Average: topographically steep slopes where the material is coarsely grained sand or till (moraine), and fine-grained sediment areas with a thickness of 2.5-4.5 metres
• Moderate: fine-grained sediment areas with a thickness of 4.5-13 metres
• Adequate: topographically very steep slopes where the material is coarsely grained sand or till (moraine), and with fine-grained sediment areas of a thickness of 13-25 metres
• Poor: fine-grained sediment areas with a thickness in excess of 25 metres and organic sediments

Information about overburden is based on GTK’s “Superficial deposits 1:20 000 / 1:50 000” dataset.
The estimations of thicknesses of fine-grained sediment areas (clay, silt, finer fine sand) is primarily based on GTK’s airborne geophysical survey datasets and drilling data.
Slope steepness has been calculated using the laser scanning dataset of the National Land Survey of Finland (NLS).
A few field inspections were also conducted in the area in support of the construction condition map. Special characteristics pertaining to specific areas are described in more detail in the survey report.

Construction conditions of superficial deposits in the Pori area (2009):
The Civil Engineering Ground Survey Guidelines (KUPO-92) have been used as the basis for the classification of the construction condition dataset. The area has been divided into five construction condition categories. In addition, bedrock areas, man-made ground areas, and unmapped, built-up areas are shown in their own category without any estimation on the construction condition characteristics. The construction condition dataset for Pori also includes an area in which there are possible occurrences of fine sediments lying below the coarse sediments. This kind of stratigraphy does not have its own construction condition category in the construction condition map and are shown as a separate layer in the map. Furthermore, the fine-grained sediment areas for which no reliable thickness interpretation was available have been left unclassified.
Information about overburden is based on GTK’s “Superficial deposits 1:20 000 / 1:50 000” dataset. The estimation of the thicknesses of fine-grained sediments is based on the existing drilling data for the area and GTK's airborne geophysical survey data. A field inspection was conducted in the area, in connection with which the morphology of the area and the composition of moraine areas was checked, and electrical conductivity measurements were carried out to support airborne geophysical interpretation.
Slope steepness has been calculated from the laser scanning dataset of the National Land Survey of Finland (NLS).
The grid size for the construction condition dataset is two (2) metres.
Classification

Information about overburden is based on GTK’s “Superficial deposits 1:20 000 / 1:50 000” (Helsinki Metropolitan area, Kotka) and “Superficial deposits of Finland 1:200 000 (sediment polygons)” (Uusimaa, Porvoo, Loviisa, Kymenlaakso) datasets.
Thickness of fine-grained sediments was not utilized in the interpretation, as producing a thickness interpretation over the entire study area would have been too uncertain without drilling data or sufficient information on electrical conductivity of different type of fine-grained sediment areas. As a result, “III Average construction conditions” class does not exist at all since thickness of fine-grained sediments information would be required to distinguish this class from others.
Slope steepness has been calculated using the National Land Survey of Finland (NLS) 25 m x 25 m digital elevation model (Helsinki Metropolitan area, Porvoo, Loviisa, Kotka, Uusimaa, Kymenlaakso).
The grid size for the construction condition dataset is 20 metres.
Classification
• I Very good construction conditions: topographically plain sand and gravel areas
• II Good construction conditions: topographically plain or gently sloping till (moraine) areas and gently sloping coarse-grained sand or gravel areas
• IV Demanding construction conditions: topographically steep coarse-grained sand or till (moraine) areas and topographically plain, gentle or steep fine-grained sediment areas
• V Very demanding construction conditions: topographically very steep areas, fine-grained sediments and organic sediments
• Other areas: bedrock outcrops and bedrock areas covered with less than 1 m thick soil layer, generally till, man-made ground, unmapped, built-up area
• Water bodies
The construction condition characteristics for the areas of Kotka, Kymenlaakso, Loviisa, Porvoo, Helsinki Metropolitan ja Uusimaa are described in more detail in the final report named “Climate-Proof Living Environment – Methodologies, tools and practical recommendations for climate change adaptation in the Kymenlaakso and Uusimaa regions and the Helsinki Metropolitan Area”:
