Tiivistelmä:
Abstract:
1. Potentiaaliset kallioriutat - pienialaisia kohteita, joilla todennäköisesti esiintyy riuttoja.
2. Potentiaaliset kallioriuttaympäristöt - laajempia alueita, joiden sisällä todennäköisesti esiintyy riuttoja
3. Potentiaaliset hiekkasärkät - pienialaisia kohteita, joilla todennäköisesti esiintyy hiekkasärkkiä
4. Potentiaaliset hiekkasärkkäympäristöt - laajempia alueita, joilta voi todennäköisesti löytää hiekkasärkkiä
Suoja-alueiden alueelle osuneet luontotyypit on poistettu aineistosta.

The marine habitat type data concerns the modelling work carried out within the Finnish Inventory Programme for the Underwater Marine Environment (VELMU) in spring 2015. The task was done in cooperation between the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) and Åbo Academi University (ÅA). The work included the modelling of the marine habitats included in the Annex 1 of the Habitats Directive: reefs (1170) and sandbanks, which are slightly covered by sea water all the time (1110). The aforementioned marine habitat types are specified on the basis of seabed substrate type and topographic form and they can overlap one another. The objective was to produce comprehensive maps of the occurrences of reefs and sandbanks throughout the entire marine area of Finland based on the best data available. The criteria to determine the marine habitats were discussed with the responsible bodies and the instructions (version 5.1), which include more precise criteria for determining marine habitat types than the Natura 2000 Habitats Manual (Airaksinen & Karttunen 2001), for a Natura 2000 inventory were utilised.
On the basis of different criteria and test analyses, a decision was made to model the following entireties:
1. Potential rocky reefs - detail-scale sites that are likely to have reef occurrences.
2. Potential rocky reef environments - larger sites that are likely to have reef occurrences.
3. Potential sandbanks - detail-scale sites that are likely to have sandbank occurrences.
4. Potential sandbank environments - larger sites that are likely to have sandbank occurrences.
The data concerning the marine habitats of restricted areas has been removed.

Puolustusvoimien suoja-alueiden alle osuva aineisto on poistettu.

The marine habitat types presented herein have been determined from existing models and data, the precision and coverage of which varies according to marine area and from coastal area to the open sea, consequently impacting the validity of the findings. The factors of determination for the marine habitat types (e.g. extent, gradient, relief, shallowness) were not precisely specified at the time of the study and this determination has been conducted on the basis of existing data and estimates made by researchers. It must be noted that some other numerical criteria might have produced a different result. The analysis radii used for determining the seabed forms affect the end result and the analysis radii used herein do not facilitate the determination of all elevations, e.g. large-sized elevations. Some potentially erroneous marine habitat types can be included, e.g. upper slopes of deep channels are in some places classed as being potential reefs (particularly the Archipelago Sea). In addition, the marine habitat types overlap, as the same area can be specified as being a potential reef, sandbank as well as into the habitat type outer archipelago islets and small islands. Precise geological data is only available for limited areas, which means that the principle substrate type for the elevation has been estimated on the basis of existing data and the result is approximate. The data concerning areas restricted by the Finnish Defence Forces has been removed. The data is indicative and must not be used in decision making without regional validation. The producers of the data (Åbo Akademi, GTK and VELMU) do not provide any guarantees as to the quality, accuracy and completeness of the data or assurances for using in specific applications.

Vedenalaisten luontotyyppien mallinnuksessa on käytetty seuraavia aineistoja: 1.VELMUn puitteissa Suomen Ympäristökeskuksessa (SYKE) tehty syvyysmalli koko merialueelle (20 x 20m pikselikoko). Aineiston tarkkuus vaihtelee alueittain, etenkin sisämereltä ulkomerelle (karkeampi tarkkuus). 2.GTK:n 1:20 000 pohjanlaatuaineistot (kattavat vain osan merialueesta) 3.SYKE:ssä laskettu pohjan avoimuus -malli (20 x 20m pikselikoko) (depth attenuated exposure, menetelmä Bekkby & Isaeus 2008 mukaan) 4.Metsähallituksen vuosina 2004-2012 keräämät grid-otantaan perustuvat aineistot, joista käytettiin eri pohjanlaatujen %- peittävyysarvoja. EMODNET-taso).

The following material has been used for the modelling of marine habitat types: 1.Depth model for the entire marine area (20 x 20 metres pixel size) that was in use within the VELMU project and was produced by the Finnish Environment Instute (SYKE). The accuracy of the material varies according to area, especially from coastal areas to the open seas (poorer resolution). 2.GTK’s 1:20 000 marine geological data (covers part of the marine area) 3.Seabed openness model calculated by SYKE (20 x 20 metres pixel size) (depth attenuated exposure, method according to Bekkby & Isaeus 2008) 4.The grid sampling data gathered by Metsähallitus during 2004-2012 that includes percentage coverage for different seabed substrate types. The data on esker islands by SYKE as well as the broad scale seabed substrate data by GTK were used in the analysis.

Process step:
Pienimmät (alle 1600 m2, 2*2 solua) alueet on poistettu artefaktien välttämiseksi. Puolustusvoimien suoja-alueiden alle osuva aineisto on poistettu. Potentiaalisten riuttojen määrityksessä on hyödynnetty pääosin 300 m analyysisäteellä, paitsi Perämerellä 500 m analyysisäteellä, tunnistettuja kohoumia, jotka ovat alle (20-) 50 m syvällä. Potentiaalisiksi kallioriuttaympäristöiksi määritettiin joko 1 km (Suomenlahti, Merenkurkku) tai 5 km (Saaristomeri, Selkämeri, Perämeri) analyysisäteellä pohjasta kohoavat alueet, jotka ovat -alle (20) 50 m syvällä. Potentiaalisia hiekkasärkkiä määritettiin vain Perämerelle, jossa tiedettiin olevan laajoja hiekan peittämiä alueita. Perämeren hiekkavaltaisella alueella, 500 m analyysisäteellä pohjasta kohoavat alueet määritettiin potentiaalisiksi hiekkasärkiksi. Potentiaalisia hiekkasärkkäympäristöjä määritettiin pääasiassa 5 km analyysisäteellä, vain Merenkurkussa käytettiin pienempää 1 km sädettä.

The marine habitat type analyses were produced separately for marine subregions as they differ from one another by their geomorphological features. The study used the HELCOM 2013 division of marine areas (Bothnian Bay, Kvarken, Bothnian Sea, Archipelago Sea, Gulf of Finland). On the basis of the definitions, the reefs and sandbanks represent marine habitat types that are elevated from their surroundings. This being the case, the forms rising from the seabed were first to be modelled. Modelling used the ArcGIS add-on Benthic Terrain Modeler (BTM), which compares the height of the raster grid to the heights of the surrounding grids and calculates a BPI (Benthic Position Index) value for each pixel. In addition, in some areas the seabed slope was calculated from the depth model to assist in the identification process. BTM analyses were done using different radii, which enabled the identification of elevations and depressions of different sizes. The BPI values obtained using different radii were first compared to the abundance of the seabed areas with hard substrate types (rock, boulders, stones), sand and gravel, or soft seabed in areas of the dense sampling grid. The objective was to identify the optimal radius to detect the extent of rocky elevations or sand elevations. The elevations were also compared to the existing 1:20 000 marine geological data. The smaller (less than 1 600 square metres, 2*2 grids) areas were removed in order to avoid artifacts. The data concerning areas restricted by the Finnish Defence Forces has been removed. Primarily an analysis radius of 300 metres was utilised for the determination of potential reefs at depths shallower than (20-) 50 metres, with the exception of the Bothnian Bay, where a 500-metre analysis radius was used. Submarine structures that were elevated from their surroundings with either a one-kilometre (Gulf of Finland, Kvarken) or five-kilometre (Archipelago Sea, Bothnian Sea, Bothnian Bay) analysis radius and that were located in areas shallower than (20-) 50 m were identified as potential rocky reef environments. Potential sandbanks were only determined for the Bothnian Bay, where it is known to occur expansive areas covered in sand. In the sand-dominated area of the Bothnian Bay, the areas elevated from the seabed using a 500-metre analysis radius were determined as being potential sandbanks. Potential sandbank environments were mainly specified using a five-kilometre analysis radius. The smaller, one-kilometre radius was only used in Kvarken.
